Arnold Clark, the Scottish automotive retail giant, announced that it suffered a cyberattack. An external cybersecurity firm identified abnormal activity on the company’s network on Christmas Eve.
What Damage Has Been Done
As a precaution, after the attack, Arnold Clark decided to shut down its network. This led to losing Internet connection, as well as contact with dealerships, and third parties. Until the full system is safely recovered, the company’s branches are operating on temporary systems.
Our priority has been to protect our customers’ data, our systems, and our third-party partners. While this has been achieved, this action has caused temporary disruption to our business and unfortunately our customers.

The organization declared that the threat actors did not manage to exfiltrate customer data, although the company’s telephone system and booking services were also infected.
The Rumor Mill
Rumors about the organization’s IT chief being urged to return from his Italian holiday to deal with the incident, have been denied. Arnold Clark stated that the enormous task of reviewing the whole IT network and infrastructure of the company has been taken over by an external cybersecurity firm.
Our external security partners have now been performing an extensive review of our whole IT network and infrastructure, which is a mammoth task, and they are providing guidance to our IT team on the re-enabling of our network and systems in a safe, secure, and phased manner.

Another source stated that: “The hackers wiped out their systems and they are trying to recover customers details while rebuilding their system. Employees have been told to keep what’s happened under wraps but there was no chance something this big wouldn’t get out.”
