Maple Leaf Foods, Canada’s largest prepared meats and poultry food producer, confirmed on Sunday that a cybersecurity incident caused a disruption of their operations. The Canadian brand employs 14,000 people and in 2021 generated revenues in sales worth $3.3 billion.

Despite the unfortunate timing, Maple Leaf Foods’ IT team took the necessary measure to respond to the incident. The company’s specialists are working with other cybersecurity and recovery experts to find a solution to the situation as soon as possible.

On November 4th, the company issued an official statement on its website, informing stakeholders of the cyberattack.

Maple Leaf Foods is executing its business continuity plans, as it works on restoring the impacted systems, however, it expects that full resolution of the outage will take time and as a result, the company’s clients should expect disruptions in service and operational departments.

The Company will continue to work with all its customers and suppliers to minimize these disruptions in order to continue delivering the nutritious food people need.

BleepingComputer reached out to the Canadian food packaging giant to gather more information on the incident. The company’s spokesperson declared that due to the outage, some operational and service disruptions that vary by business unit, plant, and site have been caused.

We do expect some disruption in our operations and service levels as we work through the restoration process, but our team is deploying our business continuity plan and implementing workarounds to mitigate the impact on our operations and business.
