Cybercriminals are using a new residential proxy market to illegally access, sell, and trade the IP addresses of millions of proxys. A new entity which claims such a large pool of available proxies is a considerable development, considering law enforcement has shut down several large proxy providers in the past couple of years, such as RESNET and INSORG.

Analysts spotted the new platform, reporting that ‘BlackProxies’ is one of the fastest-growing newcomers in the market.

Residential Proxies – Quick Walkthrough

Proxies are servers you can use to open an online connection to any other device. The proxy server accepts the request and forwards it on your behalf, in turn, hiding your IP address and redirecting it as if it was coming from the proxy’s address.

However, the difference with residential proxies is that they use the IP address of a consumer’s home computer, which is ideal for bots looking to blend into regular website traffic. Although it is not unheard of for residential users to willingly become proxies for profit, in most cases, they get involuntarily turned proxies through a malware infection on their machine.

Cybercriminals will often use residential proxies in order to improve their illegal business operations and stay hidden from law enforcement and blockers. Earlier in August this year, FBI issued a warning about the cybercriminals` growing interest for using residential proxies when engaging in credential-stuffing attacks.

More on BlackProxies

The BlackProxies service claims to have access to a pool of 1,000,000 IP addresses from around the world, all coming from real residential users, offering claims of unblocked status and low detection rates. Good speeds are also ensured in addition to their high-quality customer service.

Additionally, the service offers an auto-rotation system that refreshes IP addresses automatically, ensuring that each request is made from a new address.

According to CSN, the costs for using the service are as follows:

  • 1 hour plan – $14
  • 1 day plan – $14
  • 1 week plan – $39
  • 1 month plan – $89

Upon further examination, its IP address pool claims turned out to be false, with just over 180,000 available IP addresses. This is still significant, though, as it is even more than platforms that use unreliable methods, such as botnets, to grow their IP pool.

There is a rapid increase in the popularity of the BlackProxies service, even though the platform claims that it only provides services to customers for legal and lawful uses. However, once these distributors create their own network, they will start getting several lucrative illicit offers. Consequently, they turn into cybercriminal firms.
