The American building security company, ADT, announced that it had been the victim of a data breach.

Threat actors allegedly broke into certain of ADT’s systems and stole customer information, the company claims in a Form 8-K regulatory document it submitted to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Thursday morning.

The company has approximately 6 million customers across 200 locations in the United States. ADT employs 14,300 people and has an annual revenue of almost $5 billion.

What Do We Know About the Breach?

According to the Form 8-K document filled by the company, the attackers managed to obtain limited customer information, including email addresses, phone numbers, and postal addresses.

The company promptly took steps to shut down the access of the threat actors after becoming aware of the incident. Furthermore, ADT partnered with leading third-party cybersecurity experts to launch an investigation.

ADT claims that there is no proof that its customers’ home security systems have been affected, even considering the cybersecurity disaster. Furthermore, according to ADT, the attackers did not steal any banking or credit card information from its clients.

ADT stated that the impacted individuals make up a minor portion of the company’s total client base, but they did not offer any numbers.

The leaked data made its way to a popular hacking forum. A threat actor known as ‘netnsher’ leaked customer data allegedly stolen from ADT.

According to the threat actor, 30,800 customer records—including email addresses, full addresses, user IDs, and the things that customers have bought—had been leaked.
