The press release shows us that the cybersecurity incident did not compromise the safety measures or cause environmental damage. The company’s main priority is to resume its operations normally as soon as possible, limiting the financial impact of the attack.

As reported by BleepingComputer, a cybercriminal offered to sell the credentials of an account belonging to a CMMC employee on a hacker marketplace on December 13, 2022. It is very likely that hackers utilized a compromised account to access the company’s network given the proximity of the dates between the credential that was being offered for sale and the announcement of the ransomware assault.

CMMC informed the competent authorities about the incident and an investigation is undergoing. The company produces approximately 100 million pounds of copper equivalent on average per year.
